August 28, 2017On 6th May 2017, Rwanda Development Board has announced a rise in the price of Gorilla passes from US$ 750 to US $1,500 for all to tourists with immediate effect. A new exclusive package for tourists who wish to book an entire family of gorillas was also introduced at US$ 15,000, and will receive exclusive personalized tour guide services.
However, tourists who have already booked their gorilla permits will not be affected by the price increase.
Clients visiting other destinations like Nyungwe National Park and Akagera wildlife park for a minimum of 3 days on addition to gorilla tracking will get a 30% discount on gorilla tickets. Like wise, conference tourists, who stay pre or post conference dates to visit gorillas will be eligible for a 15% discount.
The main aim of doubling the price is to strengthen gorilla conservation efforts and contribute more to the development of communities living around Parc National Des Volcans. In other words, tourism revenues are expected to increase, thus increasing the potion shared by the local communities. For instance, for over a decade ago, over 400 community projects have been completed such as medical centers, schools, clean water supply and business development centers among others. These projects directly benefit the local communities living around the parks.
