September 21, 2018Rwanda opens Gishwati – Mukura National Park for Tourism
Rwanda is making a move to diversify her tourism due to high demand by visitors to the country. This move has led to establishment of the Gishwati Mukura national park, becoming the fourth national park in Rwanda. The park is a spectacular national park located in Ngororero and Rutsiro district in the northwest of Rwanda.
According to a report it shows that the national park will officially open for visitors in 2019. This is a plan to increase on the country’s tourism revenue. The Rwanda Development Board is targeting an increase of about 25 percent of tourism earning every year. This national park is to boast the number of visitors to the western province of Rwanda.
This park stretches along the Congo Nile, which is a habitat for over 60 tree species with some mammal species such as; Chimpanzees, golden monkeys, blue monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoests monkeys and over 130 bird species including 20 Albertine rift endemics.
It will offer some of the exciting safari activities like birding, primate watching, hiking and the nature walks, cultural experience among others. These activities give opportunity for the travelers to explore a virgin forest that has never been tempted before by a traveler and be among the first to flag it off in 2019.
Despite the park being new but still travelers have the opportunity to have an overnight in the park. Facilities like Gishwati lodge and the nearby Bisate Lodge situated in the Volcanoes national park can amuse any traveler who wants to be the first in exploring Gishwati-Mukura national park. Travelers should also note that there are few accommodation facilities currently but new ones are expected to venture in the near future.
Like any other safari destination in Africa, the best time for exploring the natural wonders of this park is always dry season. For any traveler interested in adventures like chimpanzee or the other primates then he/she should not miss out exploring the new park of Rwanda, Gishwati-Mukura National Park.
The wet season is also a perfect season because of the fact that it is a period when there is enough food for wildlife to feed and this makes it simple for one to track them unlike the dry season when the animals have to move for longer distances to get what to eat.
The dry season is relatively the best time because the park’s habitat remains relatively dry and favorable for visitors to embark on primate watching. However, in this region rain is expected any time of the day regardless of the seasons.
Someone might be wondering how they can access the park, it’s very easy. Just located in the north west of Rwanda near Lake Kivu, Volcanoes national park and D. R. Congo is where the park is located. It’s an estimate of 27 kilometers’ drive from Volcanoes National Park. Travelers from Kigali can access the park using road transport or connect direct from Volcanoes national park to Gishwati Mukura National park.
