Sport fishing is possible in every lake or river in Uganda and in this article, we let you know about the best places, highly recommended for fishing. Within approximately 5 to 6 hours, the drive leads from Kampala to Murchison Falls national park in North-western Uganda, one of the most famous sport fishing destinations.
Fishing is done at the bottom of the great Murchison falls in the River Nile. Fish species of every size can be expected, especially the Nile perch, cat fish or tiger fish. The biggest fish ever caught was a Nile perch with around 108 kilograms. A fishing permit is $50 per day and $150 for four days. The fishing spots are reachable by boat or hiking from top of the falls, for those with some physical fitness. Recommended months for fishing in Murchison falls national park are January to March and July to October.
Of course the second biggest fresh water lake can’t be left out, Lake Victoria. Uganda shares this lake with Kenya and Tanzania. A total of 84 islands inhabit the lake and most of them are convenient spots that support sport fishing in Uganda.
Fishing here is possible the whole year, though the most preferred season for sport fishing is October to March. Anglers have the opportunity to catch a Nile perch between 10 and 80 kilogram. There are a lot of suppliers for sport fishing and there is no exact price, but normally there are half day trips starting in the morning and evening or full day trips. Prices start from as low as $125 based on four people on a boat.
Another great spot for sport fishing is definitive Lake Mburo National Park. Located only 4 hours away from Kampala in western Uganda and one of the smallest savannah parks in the country. Highly recommended are the places around Mazinga. Six distinct fish species are located in this area. Even here a fishing permit is necessary which costs $15 for a day.

A trip to this location gives anglers the chance to catch one of the rainbow fish species with the weight of around three kilograms. Permits for this area are available in the neighboring lodges. Sipi is known for beautiful mountains, the three popular waterfalls, coffee plantations and a wonderful landscape.
