Uganda is one of the most religious countries in East Africa. Though the country is dominated by Christians, other religions such as Muslims equally share in influencing the country.
There are annual Christian events by different Christian sects such as the Anglicans, Catholics, SDAs, and born again/ Pentecostal faith
Religion Headquarters
Kampala is not only the political capital but also the religious capital of Uganda home to the headquarters of the Catholic faith, Anglican faith, Islam, Bahai among other religious headquarters can be found in Kampala.
- Rubaga Cathedral (Catholics)
Rubaga Cathedral is the head quarter for the catholic faith in Uganda. The cathedral is located on Rubaga hill about 5 kilometers from Kampala city center.
The entrance to the cathedral is free of charge; offering you the history of the catholic church in Uganda, milestones and few challenges that the catholic church has had to maneuver through to find its present stand.
It is a unique piece of architecture not worth explaining since it would be an under-representation of what can be seen in this place.
- Namirembe Cathedral (Anglicans)
The Anglican faith in Uganda also known as church of Uganda for some reasons has two recognizable headquarters on Nakaseero hill and Namirembe hill.However to many people Namirembe cathedral still takes the first spot because it was the first head quarters for the Anglican headquarters in Uganda.
The cathedral’s beauty can only be matched by that of Rubaga cathedral however there is a uniqueness and distinction between these two cathedrals because of the renovation that has been than on Namirembe cathedral for a number of times.
- National Mosque (Muslims)
The national mosque is also known as Gadaffi mosque which is the biggest mosque in the whole of Uganda.
The entrance to this mosque is free of charge however this doesn’t apply to foreigners since they have to part with about US$5 for entrance.
Uganda national mosque also provide brief history of the Islam religion in Uganda
- Bahai Temple
Bahai temple is the only temple in Africa for the bahai religion which makes it more of pilgrim destination in Africa. It has unique architecture; however no one is allowed to take photos of the interior because it is considered a sacred place.
Due to the silence and beauty of the gardens around Bahai temple, couples often the gardens for photo shots
