Are you looking for a quiet and secluded place to spend your Sunday evening? Or, do you desire to learn and experience some of Uganda’s interesting cultural music and dances? Just visit the Ndere Cultural center where Ugandan culture is brought to life and lots of fun is guaranteed. While here, you will see the excited faces of guests exclaiming “wao” after invigorating performances that take their breath away.
People who visit this Cultural Center and always treated to lots of dinner-theatre performances that involve the history of the country but also contributes to the promotion of knowledge and skills by the use of dance, music and oral histories to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Uganda. While the moon and stars shine brightly in the sky, the visitors wine and dine with colorful smiles as if the World is an utterly exciting place.
This site features a 700-seater Amphitheatre is and is found within Ntinda in Kampala-the capital City of Uganda, approximately 2 kilometers from the Ntinda Trading Center and was founded in 1986 by Stephen Rwangyezi, a Ugandan Cultural activist who is also the Executive Director with an aim of promoting universal unity through dance, music and drama.
The center has for many years performed dances and songs from different tribes in Uganda and the neighboring countries especially Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya and when you are at Ndere Cultural center, your evening will simply be filled with excitement as you catch a glimpse of several performers in traditional dresses charmingly entertaining the audience with unsurpassed skills in dance and use of various musical instruments to entertain the enthusiastic guests.
There are also lush and well manicured gardens with abundant tree species teaming with butterflies, birds and other exceptional attractions. There is also a restaurant, guesthouse and bar where you can have snacks or hefty dinner with mainly traditional foods as the troupe entertains you. With such an interesting place, your evening should not be boring but rather a delight where you will watch several performers in traditional dresses charming the curious audience with the erotic movements around the waistlines, and strokes usually comprise of Entole, Larakaraka, Kadodi and Nankasa dances.
The passionate and energy-packed Shows at the Ndere Cultural center are conducted every Sunday from 6pm to 9pm, allowing you to spend your weekend in a refreshing way while Wednesdays are for storytelling and Fridays are for Afro-jazz music from 7pm to 9pm. Prices for the shows are also pocket-friendly for locals as well as foreigners and these include Shs 50,000 (or $15) for adult non-Ugandans, Shs 30,000 for adult Ugandans and Shs 15,000 for children aged two to twelve years but the prices don’t include the buffet.
The Center is however a nerve center bringing together over 1600 Uganda Development Theatre Association Groups across the country as a way of entertaining while educating people through music, dance and drama. Other services offered by the Ndere Troupe members include performances in festivals, dinners, graduations, expos, conferences, Weddings, state functions, launches and opening ceremonies among others.
