December 29, 2020Uganda Tour Operators Vaccination Exercise Continues
June 4, 2021Have you been anxiously waiting for updates regarding the opening of Virunga national park in the Democratic Republic of Congo? We hope this will be helpful.
Virunga Hikes and Gorilla Treks To Resume
The covid-19 pandemic made 2020 a very dramatic year in terms of closure. Among the places that closed due to the pandemic were the primate parks in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. However before the end of 2020; Uganda and Rwanda had already opened their primate parks to the public with a few Covid-19 standard operation procedures in place.
Though the turn up in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, Mgahinga gorilla national park, and volcanoes national park has not yet picked up at least they have been open to anyone who still thinks of supporting primate conservation even amidst the pandemic. Unlike most of the safaris Africa has to offer, gorilla trekking is quite different. It is an adventure activity at whose center springs the efforts not only to preserve the mountain gorillas but also their natural habitats
Whenever a person considers going gorilla trekking, they are setting out on an adventure that will enhance community development and wildlife conservation yet offering them a once in a lifetime adventure unique to only Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Early this week, Virunga national park has emailed its partner tour operators informing them about the plans for the general opening of the park to the public on 1st April 2021. However; there are already some places already open by now.
Virunga National park Available Packages
As of today; Tchegera is open for bookings on a daily basis while Nyiragongo only opens on Saturdays with minimum groups of 12 pax. This condition of operation will continue until 1st April 2021 when Nyirangongo is also to start operating on a daily basis of course keeping other factors constant. However much we have all these anticipations, the Covid-19 effect is still unpredictable that is why even with these plans in place; they also remain in suspense.
The good news is; since the opening of the primate parks elsewhere; there has not been an alarming situation in regard to Covid-19 and the primates. With such a background, we hope that Virunga national park’s plans of Nyiragongo daily operations starting on 1st Aprils 2021 and the resuming of gorilla trekking on 1st June 2021 to be executable.
