October 19, 2020Ranger Dies In The Line Of Duty
In the recent past, most of the reports rotating around the death of game rangers have been in regard to exchanges with poachers or would-be poachers. However, this has not been the case in Virunga national park this year. Local sources have shared their account of the story claiming that it was the FDLR_RUD armed group.
FDLR stands for the federation of democratic forces for the liberation of Rwanda. It is a rebel group that has been in instance since 2007. It was said, the same group pillaged the local communities prior to their attack on an ICCN patrol post near the village of Sarambwe. After the attack on the ICCN patrol post, they went further and attacked the community again.
In their attack on ICCN patrol post, a 47-year-old game ranger by the names of Bagurumbumwe Chuhoe Deogene lost his life. He was a father to three children with one wife. He thirteenth person to die in a raid at the same park this year.
As African Jungle Adventures we grieve for the loss of one of the rangers who put his life on the line to protect the park.
