Mountain Gorillas And Covid19

There has been a number of concerns among tour operators regarding the safety of mountain gorillas in Uganda. Mountains gorillas DNA is so close to that of human beings making them equally endangered in case of a Covid19 infection. Unfortunately, without any identified cures, there are no solutions that have so far been thought of in case these primates catch the virus.

During all these uncertainties, Uganda wildlife Authority has today come out with a statement to ensure the safety of primates in Uganda through calling off all primate safaris in Uganda till 30th March 2020. On top of this, there were adjustments in rescheduling of gorilla permits and chimpanzee permits to avoid cancellation of the gorilla permits. 

Tour operators and tourists can now reschedule their permits up to 31st march 2022 without any extra charges. Below is the statement from Uganda wildlife Authority regarding how they about going about the matter of Covid19 (Corona Virus)
